Influence of nonisothermality on the dynamics of gravitational settling of a single solid sphere at low reynolds numbers

New experimental data are presented on the laws governing gravitational settling of a single cooled and heated solid spherical particle in a viscous liquid in the range of Reynolds numbers Re = 0.001-1. A decrease in the rate of stationary settling of a cooled particle and, conversely, an increase i...

Description
Summary:New experimental data are presented on the laws governing gravitational settling of a single cooled and heated solid spherical particle in a viscous liquid in the range of Reynolds numbers Re = 0.001-1. A decrease in the rate of stationary settling of a cooled particle and, conversely, an increase in the velocity of a heated particle are shown. Empirical dependences of the rate of settling of a solid sphere on the diff erence of the temperatures of the particle and liquid in the case of heating and cooling of the particle were obtained. The processing of experimental data on the eff ective temperature has been carried out.
