Trained as a cultural anthropologist, he conducts research in the areas of Indigenous social-economies and sustainable development in the Arctic. Timo Koivurova is a research professor at the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland, and has a multidisciplinary specialisation in Arctic law and governance but has also conducted broader research on multi-level governance.
