Description
Summary:New data on the stratigraphic distribution of large mammals in the territory of the West Siberian Plain allowed distinguishing three main stages in the development of the Quaternary fauna. The first is the ancient stage (Paleopleistocene, Eopleistocene) that reflects warm and humid conditions, mosaic landscapes, and an ecologically diverse fauna composition. The second stage is transitional (Early Neopleistocene) that reflects changes in the landscape, climatic conditions, and in fauna composition. The third is the tundra-steppe stage (Middle and Late Neopleistocene) that reflects the maximum cold aridization of landscapes and the dominance of species related to open landscape.
