An experimental study of the hydrodynamic drag coefficient of a cooled hard sphere at small Reynolds numbers

Results of the experimental study of gravitational sedimentation of a cooled spherical particle in a viscous fluid within the Reynolds number range Re = 0.01-1.32 are presented. It is shown that the stationary sedimentation rate of a cooled particle considerably decreases (up to 30%). Empirical depe...

Description
Summary:Results of the experimental study of gravitational sedimentation of a cooled spherical particle in a viscous fluid within the Reynolds number range Re = 0.01-1.32 are presented. It is shown that the stationary sedimentation rate of a cooled particle considerably decreases (up to 30%). Empirical dependences for the sedimentation rate and hydrodynamic drag coefficient are obtained for a particle in the range of the difference between fluid (glycerin or silicon oil) and particle temperatures T = 0-210 K.
